About me

I’m Ditta Foldesi-Szalkai — a mural artist, illustrator, designer and maker based in Swansea, UK. My work blends fine art sensibility with bold, atmospheric storytelling, shaped by a journey that spans Hungary’s art studios to the coastal landscapes of Wales.
I began my artistic path in Hungary, where years of dedicated study grounded me in realistic drawing and painting. This foundation led me to work as a scenic painter for a theatre company — an experience that sparked my love for working on a large scale and creating immersive environments.
After moving to the UK, I continued developing my practice while completing a BA (Hons) in Surface Pattern Design at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. Since then, I’ve worked as a freelance artist and illustrator, collaborating with private clients and a major retail design consultancy.
My process bridges traditional and digital techniques. I begin with hand-drawn or painted artwork, then refine and expand it using digital tools. This hybrid approach allows me to create richly layered murals, illustrations and patterns that feel both crafted and contemporary.
Today, my work is inspired by the textures, colours and rhythms of the natural world — especially the coastlines that surround me. Whether I’m painting a wall, illustrating a story, or designing for interiors, my aim is always the same: to create art that transforms spaces and connects people to a sense of place.
